The meaning of life

I have almost finished writing a book that represents a personal attempt to find meaning for existence. I am a child of an era beset by the idea of happiness.

With the term happiness we usually mean an ephemeral state linked to a fulfillment of a desire where the desire is not even connected with a real need but is mostly induced by manipulative marketing campaigns. I am convinced that this idea and pursuit of happiness is the greatest cause of unhappiness or rather of human suffering.

This is not only because desires are mostly induced, but above all because life also involves pain, suffering and loss. However, only few want to take this objective fact into consideration and face it with awareness.

Perhaps, instead of happiness we should look for meaning that transcends our limited existence. Perhaps the very search for this meaning is the source of a sense of fulfillment that is what maybe we should strive for.
