"By not acting there is nothing left to do." - Marco M.
By not acting
there is nothing
left to do
Lao Tzu
What can Lao-Tzu mean in this enigmatic and magnificent aphorism? In Taoism, not acting does not have the same meaning that we find in yogic (Vedic) philosophy, which is more literal for the latter. The Taoist non-action is the action in tune with the Wu-Wei, that is, the spontaneous and natural action. When an action is in tune with wu-wei there is no one who performs it because it is not the child of a mental elaboration and can appear outwardly in different qualities, fast and sudden as evanescent, but which gives the sensation to a possible spectator of having witnessed a natural event or an expression of the Whole.
Taoism is a philosophical reference that is alien to the dominant culture and therefore particularly valuable. Taoism is the opposite essence to narcissism, to the need to appear and be the center of attention. Taoism calls for respect for one's own nature without wanting to change it at whim, a sort of deep immersion in Amor Fati.
Wu-wei is the ultimate expression of this incredible philosophy with the external action that stems spontaneously from inner calm. It is a peremptory call to cultivate sensitivity and not technique, a constant search for harmony outside of any rotten intellectualism.
