The quest for the Holy Grail as an inner journey
The quest for the Holy Grail as an inner journey
The Grail is the empty cup and represents ascetic detachment: Askesis. It symbolizes the renunciation of imposed desires that hover like shadows in the mind in favor of self-recognition.
Parsifal finds the Grail when he renounces himself by going beyond identification with the biological machine and becomes an empty cup ready to receive the holy spirit. The Grail is choosing Agape instead of Eros, it represents the pure heart of those who decide to become a means in the hands of the Lord's will.
The Grail symbolizes the end of a journey undertaken for a long search that begins with the illusion that what must be discovered is "outside" and then understanding that it is all "inside".
